On March 21, 2015 we visited Giovanni Chediak from ArquitectonicaGEO.
Mr.Chediak explains how currently Swire Properties and ArquitectonicaGEO are
working on redeveloping Brickell CityCentre. According to Giovanni the site is a three and
a half block down which aims to create an urban gathering place for downtown
Miami. He mentioned that the site will be a 4.6 million square foot mixed -use
project, which will contain four levels of retail that will complement the new
hotel on site. The site will have new state of the art office unit’s as well
luxurious residential towers. Giovanni also stated that the landscape will be supported
by major new downtown streetscapes which lead to landscaped public courtyards,
pedestrian walkways, gathering areas, and public performance spaces.
This truly amazing project is really the first of its kind
to come to south Florida due to the strong environmental features that will be
implanted. The project is set to be LEED
certified and will be the first major project to be constructed under the Miami
21 zoning ordinance. Giovanni explained how ArquitectonicaGEO is pushing the
boundaries of Landscape architecture through sustainable tropical urbanism, which
will help to create public spaces. By adding sustainable tropical elements it
will help support a strong urban social environment while at the same time being
sensitive to the natural environment.
He explained to us that the key to this project being
successful is making sure the linkage between the surrounding street and Miami
Dade public transit flow together. The purpose
of this project is to help create an friendly pedestrian environment that can
accommodate residential, office, retail public space for the local residents while including
Florida natural habitats plants to enhance south the florida experience in this
one project. This massive project will
not only introduce a new wave environmental architecture to Miami but it will also
create environmental awareness for future development projects.
