Brickell City Center

Brickell City Center is one of nation’s largest mixed use projects.  It is a collaboration between Arquitectonica and Swire Properties.  The center is being built in the heart of the downtown Miami financial center—Brickell.  The project sits on 12 acres. The development incorporates high end residential, retail, office and hotel space.  According to Jovany Chediak, the project is the opportunity to bridge the gap between architecture and landscaping.  The developers were inspired by Mission Street in San Francisco.  Landscaping will be used as a buffer between pedestrians and traffic.  The developers obtained waivers from FDOT to incorporate landscaping to the curb. It is important to note that 100% of the vegetation used will be native to Florida.  The developers are using this technique to overcome the lack of water views. The cost of landscaping accounted for 1% of the project’s budget but will greatly enhance the project’s appeal.   The overall design is very angular with an open air mall.  Throughout the open air walkways, one will notice yoga pads, a pool, barbecue stations and lush landscaping of course.  The condo tower has a green roof to help reduce the cost of air conditioning.

At final completion, Brickell City Center should set the standard in mixed use development.
