We heard from Jovany Chediak of Arquitectonica. He presented their landscape architecture vision for their Bicknell City Center development in downtown Miami.
Unique to the development was finding 11 contiguous acres in a highly developed area. The project will be built in two phases.
The design philosophy revolved primarily around the native roots of the area. The project highlights open areas and green native flora wherever possible. The retail section of the development was essentially an open-air mall which harnessed the natural breezes of Miami and highlighting certain green areas, designed to provide the feel of a secluded natural space without compromising the ability to see the surrounding retail areas.
The development featured green roofs, which gave a very positive image especially from a bird's eye view. The green roofs give guests a fantastic view and a place to relax.
The high-end development was only lacking majestic ocean views (which are still realized from a couple of the towers). The difficulty in my opinion is going to be in getting residents and guests to pay an "ocean view" price for a city-view location. I think Arquitectonica did a great job in tying the development together with a common theme and accentuating the natural areas to a point they can be 'sold' as amenities.
